ABOUT THE EVENT

​

This  13-day Ultimate Paris Art Tour is a high-end tour with specialist art guidance;  excellent accommodation; and packed with more than R10 000 worth of visits and tickets.

Visiting Paris entails a total encounter of exotic French art, architecture and lifestyle. This tour promises to be a premium experience in Paris. You will experience the following:

  • The best of the international art through several days of visits to museums and galleries. See well-known original artworks of Old Masters, Modern and contemporary artists.

  • Personal guidance during visits to major art galleries and museums with Elfriede.

  • Stay in 3 apartments (varying from luxury to economical) in Le Marais, the best area to stay if you love being centrally located in the heart of Paris. This bohemian area is packed with restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, museums and galleries.

  • Visits to a host of tourist attractions.

  • Free time to do your own thing.

  • Expect to walk quite a lot, although we will use the metro extensively.


WHAT IS INCLUDED

​

  • The 13-day tour includes 11 nights’ accommodation in 3 apartments close together in the 3rd arrondissement.

  • Return TGV Train fare from Charles de Gaulle airport to Paris Centre.

  • Unlimited Metro usage including all fares as well as well as the train fare at Montmartre. There is a metro stop close to the apartments.

  • A 24hr hop-on hop-off bus pass around Paris with commentary on main sights.

  • The Paris Turbopass that provides entry to more than 50 Museums and sights, including the Louvre, the Picasso Museum, the Pompidou Centre, Musée D’Orsay, the Orangerie, the Grand Palais, the Petis Palais, contemporary galleries and more.

  • Specialist art guidance by Elfriede.

  • An evening show at the famous Moulin Rouge.

  • A boat tour on the Seine.

  • Visits to the art quartier of Montmartre, Le Chat Noir Café ( the hangout of Picasso, Toulouse Lautrec and other famous artists around 1900).

  • Visits to tourist places like the Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, the Eiffel Tour, the Art de Triomphe, Montmartre, the Latin Quarter. You are welcome to visit other places in your own time, using the Turbopass (if there is time!).

  • Shopping at the Champs Elysées (famous shopping street),and famous flea markets.

ITINERARY

​

  • Tues 25 Feb: Fly to arrive in Paris at Charles de Gaulle airport on Wed 26 Feb.

  • Wed 26 Feb: Meet at arrival hall at airport at 1 pm.  Walk to Charles de Gaulle 2 airport to take TGV  (fast) train (ticket included) together with group to Paris Centre (1 hour). Métro to the respective apartments. Settling in and scouting around. All the apartments are self-catering. Buy groceries at local store, eat at home; or dinner at a pizzeria, café or restaurant close to your apartment (same pattern every day).

  • Meet every morning 9 am. Most late afternoons are free.

  • Thurs 27 Feb: 9 am meet. 2h hop-on hop-off Tootbus tour through Paris centre viewing all the famous landmarks. Arc de Triomphe viewing platform over Paris. 2pm Air balloon ride over Paris. 4pm Eiffel Tower (own payment extra to go up). 6pm: Boat trip on Seine. After this you can take the Tootbus again through the city since the ticket has 24 hr validity and runs until 11pm.

  • Fri 28 Feb: 9 am meet. 10 am Picasso Museum. 12pm Centre Pompidou. 3pm guided bike tour through Paris or visit Les Halles shopping centre. 6pm Paradox Museum.

  • Sat 1 Mar: 9 am meet. 10 am Paris Flea market. 2 pm Le Chat Noir café. 4pm Tour with special guide to Sacre Coeur, Montmartre.  8.30 Evening show at Moulin Rouge!

  • Sun 2 Mar: 9 am meet. 10 am Louvre.

  • Mon 3 Mar: 9 am meet. 10 am Monet and other Impressionists at l’Orangerie. Tuileries Gardens with sculptures. 12pm  Grand Palais 4pm.  Petit Palais.

  • Tues 4 Mar: 9am meet. 10 am Versailles.

  • Wed 5 Mar: : 9 am meet. 10 am Rue de Seine commercial art galleries. 1pm Notre Dame cathedral (renovated and open now after the destructive fire of 2019). 3pm Bohemian Latin Quarter.

  • Thurs 6 Mar: 9am meet. 10 am Le bon Marché, Saint Germain des Prés. 2pm Gallery hopping in Le Marais including Marian Goodman Gallery and Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery. 5pm. Bastille, Place des Vosges.

  • Fri 7 Mar: 9 am meet. 10am Shopping centres: Champs-Élysées,  Avenue Montaigne, Boulevard Hausmann, Galeries Lafayette. Walk with or without the group.

  • Sat 8 Mar: Free day.

  • Sun 9 Mar: Fly back home or travel further

CONDITIONS:

  • Your trip must be confirmed and paid before 31 October 2023. There are between 8 and 17 places, depending on the type of accommodation booked.

  • Please wait for the go-ahead before payment, a minimum of 8 people is required for the tour to proceed.

  • Flights are cheaper at the momentso book your flight as soon as possible.

  • On booking you will be required to sign an indemnity form.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED:

FLIGHT TICKETS

Book you ticket  timeously to fly on 25 February 2025 to ensure a good price. Also ensure that you arrive in Paris on Wed 26 February to meet at 1 pm in the arrival hall at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.

MEALS AND DRINKS

For convenience and affordability sake the accommodation is booked in 3 apartments ranging from luxury to economical, fully equipped with kitchens and many bathrooms.


TOUR LEADER

​

This Paris tour is organised and led by Elfriede Dreyer. She has been involved in the art world, locally and internationally, for more than 30 years. She is an Extraordinary Professor of Art at Unisa; the Vice-President of SANAVA; the founder/manager of the CAP Institute for Contemporary Art Practice; and an active curator, professional artist and mentor.

Elfriede regularly visits international exhibitions and fairs such as Dokumenta, the Venice Biennale and the Paris Art Fair. Her approach to the tours is to provide specialist guidance, information and interpretation on artworks and artists, and she facilitates an understanding of classic and contemporary culture. Read more about Elfriede
