MODULE DESCRIPTION:
Art training involves learning techniques, procedures and certain ‘rules’. However, sometimes artists lose their spontaneity being bogged down by exactly these. This can suppress your creativity and even lead to artist’s block. In this module we look at processes to renew your creative impulses, help you overcome anxiety and experience free expression again.

In this module we analyse the anatomy of a concept in art. Concept is needed to develop artist's identity and focus, as well as obtain depth in content. We consider processes and methodologies in concept development. We look at methodologies of finding a concept.

MODULE DESCRIPTION:

In Part 1 a historical introduction is provided to the use of found materials, collage and assemblage in art.

In Part 2 we look at the use of found materials in art today. Race and gender located in found materials.  political and socio-cultural associations in found materials.

The history of the use of collage, assemblage and  found materials;

How artists use such materials in their work;

You will gain an understanding of the methodologies of using found objects and materials in art production;

You will learn how to use undisguised, but often modified, objects or products that are not normally considered as art materials.

Module 2.4: Multi-layering

MODULE DESCRIPTION:

This module falls into three parts: In Part 1 we consider layering techniques in paint and how to avoid a 'muddy' look in painting. In Part 2 we look at the use and purpose of layers of the same media and materials. In Part 3 we consider multi-layering with different materials, stacking and the use of transparent layers.

How to layer in painting without compromising imagery and colours.

Module 2.5: Photomontage

MODULE DESCRIPTION:
In this module we look at photomontage as a form of collage including photographs or photographic reproductions. It is a process of generating an original image out of other images and fragments which can be cut, layered, glued and arranged. Part 1 looks at the use of photomontage as technique in art. The origin of photomontage in 19th c. photography is traced. In Part 2 contemporary examples of photomontage are analysed.

2. Short Course in Art Practice Advanced  

The Short Course will equip you with an understanding of more advanced techniques and methodologies in art production. More complicated methodologies such as found materials and multi-layering are investigated. This course is strongly aimed at the acquisition of skills and knowledge in art praxis.

FIVE modules and FIVE assignments are included. The assignments are not compulsory, but if you want to receive a certificate of completion for the Short Course, you have to complete TWO assignments.
