Target Audience: Art lovers or artists who want to understand the deconstructionist spirit that has invaded art production and conceptual content in contemporary art since the turn of the 20th century.

Course Duration: It is difficult to determine how long it will take you to complete the course. The average time to read through the tutorial material is about 4 hours, but it can be longer, depending on how much time you spend on the links. This Module also has an assignment  to complete, which takes a variable amount on time.

MODULE DESCRIPTION:
Most of Postmodern art is characterised by a deconstructionist mindset so this course has wide application. In this module we consider deconstruction as a theory, a philosophy as well as an artmaking strategy. Aspects such as difference and intertextualisation are considered in theory and praxis. There is special focus on the international artist Anselm Kiefer and his deconstructionist approach to artmaking.


What you will learn:

You will gain a basic understanding of deconstruction as philosophy.

You will acquire insight into the application of deconstructionist thinking to art.

By way of the example of the work of  Anselm Kiefer you will be able to recognise the zeitgeist of deconstruction in many other artists' work.

There is an Assignment for this module. It is not compulsory. 

If you are doing the Certificate, you have to complete any seven assignments in order to receive a Certificate.

4. Short Course in Applied Art History  

 

In this Short Course a thematic approach to Art History is followed in order to introduce you to the discipline of Art History. Some key subject areas have been chosen for the five Modules that cuts across arthistorical periods and are relevant to contemporary art practice.

FIVE modules and FIVE assignments are included. The assignments are not compulsory, but if you want to receive a certificate of completion for the Short Course, you have to complete TWO assignments.
